The capital and largest city in Georgia is Atlanta. Among all major cities, Atlanta ranks ninth in total population as of the last census. Atlanta is located primarilly in Fulton County, Georgia, but portions of Atlanta extend into DeKalb County as well. Atlanta was the fastest growing major city in the nation between the years 2000 and 2006, with over 20% growth. Atlanta is widely regarded as a model for cities across the globe that are experiencing rapid urban growth. Atlanta is one of the three cities in the US that have been host to the Summer Olympics.
